The World’s Northern most Whisky

Aurora Spirit Distillery stands proudly as the northernmost Whisky distillery globally, nestled at 69° N in the enchanting landscapes of Arctic Norway.

Since its inception in late 2016, “Aurora” has devoted its initial years to cultivating not only a brand but also a diverse portfolio of exceptional products.

The distillery crafts Gin, Vodka, Aquavit, Liqueurs, and, of course, Whisky. Complemented by an award-winning visitor center and cabins boasting a breathtaking view, Aurora Spirit Distillery has become a must-visit destination.

The barley utilized in Whisky production hails from Finland, Scotland, and local farmers, with the distillery proudly incorporating the world’s northernmost barley into some of its Whisky.

Early product tests reveal a remarkably fruity and terroir-driven character, promising a distinct and positively different taste compared to other Whiskies. Indeed, it holds the esteemed title of the world’s northernmost Whisky.

Following distillation, the new make is artfully diluted with melted and filtered glacial water sourced from the alpine peninsula surrounding Aurora‘s location. The necessity to filter the water arises from its glacial origin, which introduces some silt particles.

Addressing the query of cask maturation in such a northern locale, the distillery confidently affirms the possibility. The unique Arctic climate offers distinct advantages, with dramatic temperature variations between seasons and day and night.

Winter temperatures can plummet below -20°C, while summer sees highs above +20°C—a remarkable 40-degree swing. The Whisky casks find their home in a specially designed Viking longhouse.

In addition to expanding Whisky sales with a forthcoming “standard” Bivrost Whisky slated for release in 2024, Aurora Spirit Distillery unveils two limited editions annually as part of a captivating “collectable series.”

Inspired by the nine worlds of Norse mythology, each release offers diverse taste impressions. The latest installment in the series, “Bivrost Midgard,” is set to launch in early May. The series has garnered exceptional reception, with all bottles selling out rapidly across various global markets.
