Supporting meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) Tourism in the Philippines

Since the launch of the Marriott Grand Ballroom (MGB) in 2015 and prior to the start of the pandemic period, the growth in the scale and volume of MICE Events in Metro Manila was a great success story.

Marriott Grand Ballroom is the biggest ballroom in the country and now one of the sought-after event venues in the country with its state-of-the-art facilities and pillar-less ballroom.

Seven years later, Marriott is adding another huge venue in its portfolio with the opening of MGBX, a 4,400 sqm convention space located at the Level B1 of the Marriott Grand Ballroom. The ‘X’ in its name stands for exhibition which also connotes “collaboration” and “partnership” where individuals, groups, and industries can grow and unite.

The newest convention space also completes the hotel’s offering to the MICE segment, one of the tourism industry’s fastest and growing sectors. MGBX is expected to host various conferences and exhibitions that will cater to all kinds of interests in the future.

MGBX

MGBX is designed for the specific requirements of exhibitions and conferences. It offers a large pre-function area, two meeting rooms, and a convention hall divisible into three rooms. Each of the three partitions within the convention hall provides more than 900 sqm of space and a ceiling height of 3.4 meters. The two meeting rooms, each about 290 sqm in size, make for the perfect breakout rooms should these be needed during the event. When fully occupied, MGBX will host as much as 4,800 people at a given time.

Strategically positioned across from the NAIA Terminal 3, located at the heart of the country’s premier lifestyle and entertainment hub, Newport World Resorts (NWR), the source markets for MGB and MGBX are primarily domestic Corporate, Association, Government and Social Events, nicely complemented by international Corporate and MICE Events mostly from ASEAN countries and some broader regional markets in Asia Pacific.

The Marriott Grand Ballroom has been a venue for some world class, large scale, international events and the recent hosting of the 2022 WTTC Global Summit not only brought positive attention to the Philippines as a destination but also highlighted its continued capability to execute at the highest level despite the set-backs of the pandemic period.

Though hospitality industry has not yet fully recovered from the pandemic, Marriott is thrilled that social and milestone events are starting back in full swing after the pandemic period and Corporate Meetings are also starting to recover at a faster pace as the year progresses.

“In 2023, we should see some significant recovery in the segment which has to be honest recovered slower than other sectors of the industry such as REVPAR and Restaurants Revenues. An interesting trend to watch for the MICE market is how changing workplace dynamics translate into periodic gatherings,” said Bruce Winton, Marriott International Multi-property Vice President – The Philippines.

While many businesses shift more permanently to hybrid or work-from-home roles, the impact of periodic, quarterly or annual get-togethers may just become more important. Event organizers receive unparalleled benefits when they book an eligible meeting or event at Marriott Hotel Manila from now until Mar 31, 2023 and host it by June 30, 2023. They get to earn double points and rewards when they plan ahead for their event, or celebrate their next big milestone at hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy. (T&Cs apply).
