Room 3120. That number alone deserves to be remembered.
The moment I stepped into my suite at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, I was met with a sweeping panoramic view that said it all. Marina Bay Sands, the Merlion, Gardens by the Bay – it was as if the entire Singapore skyline had gathered to welcome me. Floor-to-ceiling windows turned the room into a private viewing deck, with Singapore in full command outside.
But even before this visual crescendo, the Ritz-Carlton was already laying its foundation of excellence.
From the moment I arrived, service moved with flawless choreography. The bellhop greeted me by name and escorted me to meet two more hotel executives, who then walked me straight to my room and checked me in there. In the lobby, I paused briefly to admire the massive three-ton suspended art installation overhead. Cornucopia, a spiraling fiberglass sculpture by American artist Frank Stella – commissioned as part of the hotel’s extensive art collection – is an instant signal that I had entered a place where details matter.
And at the Ritz-Carlton, details are everything.
In my suite, those details spoke at every turn. Five handwritten notes appeared at thoughtful moments throughout my stay. The bed sheets bore subtle monograms. One of the most underrated hotel amenities? Slippers. And these were among the softest I’ve ever worn, hands down. The welcome chocolates, local snacks, and curated treats made the room not just comfortable, but personal. Every corner reflected taste, restraint, and refinement—hallmarks of true luxury.
And then there was the bathroom – spacious, marble-lined, and framed by that same spectacular view. I had planned to enjoy it with a glass of bubbly – until I realized I didn’t have any. No matter. Turns out, a great bubble bath doesn’t actually need champagne to feel like a celebration. With that view, the moment was already one.
A Lounge That Redefines the Term
Just one floor up from my room sat what I now consider one of the finest hotel lounges in the world. The Club Lounge at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore is a masterclass in service, aesthetics, and cultural sensitivity. The same dazzling view as my room greeted me once again, paired with intuitive name recall from the staff that made every return feel personal.
Violet – one of the attendants – was hands down one of the most pleasant I’ve ever encountered in the hotel industry. The lounge was beautifully appointed with bonsai accents and artfully arranged culinary offering – from wooden bowls and spoons for cereals to delicate Peranakan kuehs served in elegant oriental dishes. It didn’t just feel premium, it felt intentional.
There was even a small art corner where guests could paint while overlooking the bay – a thoughtful, almost meditative touch. Nostalgia found its way into the details too: White Rabbit candies and haw flakes from my childhood sat in crystal bowls, seamlessly blending luxury with heart.
Breakfasts here were memorable, but sunset canapés and champagne made you feel like time itself had slowed down to toast the moment with you.
Republic: Liquid History and Storytelling
At the lobby, Republic bar and lounge proved to be a sensory voyage of its own. Inspired by Singapore’s birth as an independent city-state in the 1960s, Republic is more than a bar – it’s a time capsule of style, spirit, and stories.
The cocktail menu, shaped by personalities in cinema, media, arts and music from that defining era, offers drinks that educate as much as they intoxicate. I was particularly drawn to Caramboleh – a cocktail made with Monkey 47 Gin, starfruit, sour plum juice, coffee ground syrup, and citrus. Created by Korean mixologist Jun Gyu (who was entering it into a competition – I hope he won!), this drink encapsulated sustainability and creativity in a glass.
The name says it all: “Carambola” for starfruit, and “boleh” for “can” in Malay. A cocktail that celebrates local flavor and a can-do spirit. “Can lah” – that unmistakably Singaporean expression captures the optimism that built this nation. It’s the spirit of possibility, the same one championed by founding father Lee Kuan Yew. Fittingly, there’s even a cocktail called Founding Father, which I naturally had to try. It didn’t disappoint.
Vintage spirits from global auctions were elegantly displayed within the bar’s architectural pillars, but the real stars – the bartenders, many of them Filipino – brought charm, warmth, and depth of knowledge to every pour. A few of them were, in fact, instrumental in creating some of the cocktails on the menu.
Contrasting this moody, seductive bar was the adjacent refined lounge, drenched in natural light and framed by a stunning art deco chandelier. I sat beneath it and savored one of the best-kept secrets in Singapore: an elegant three-course meal at an unbelievable value. A Caesar salad with pomelo and Kurobuta bacon, ember-grilled beef tenderloin with whiskey-glazed carrots, and a vanilla sundae with smoked caramel and rum honeycomb all for just 38 SGD. World-class food, quietly confident.
The Ritz-Carlton Spa: A Journey Within
If you’ve followed my writing, you know I love a good spa. I believe that when done right, it becomes its own destination – a place where time bends and senses are restored. At The Ritz-Carlton Spa, that’s exactly what I found.
From the calming voices of the spa therapist to the scent and music of the treatment room, and the posh softness of the robe – it was like entering a temple of calm. The Signature Massage I received was transcendent: a blend of aromatherapy oils and restorative techniques that targeted tension and left me feeling deeply rebalanced. Easily worth going back to the hotel just for this.
No surprise the spa is the first La Mer hotel partner spa in Asia Pacific. Every moment felt intentional, healing, and indulgent in the best possible way.
The Club Lounge: The Most Visited Place That Bade Me Farewell
On the day of my check-out, I sat with the sunrise spilling over the bay, savoring one of my best breakfast combinations: smoked salmon with capers, sour cream, and soft scrambled eggs – runny, just how I like them. Taking a mental note – and more photos – of the spectacular view of this incredible city.
A few hours later, a pre-arranged, chauffeur-driven car whisked me away to the airport.
