Established in 1964, JNTO provides information for international travellers about Japan and promotes travel to the country.

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) opened its first office in Middle East in Dubai in November 2021. Covering the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region and the Turkish market, JNTO Dubai aims to strengthen promotional activities within the luxury travel market across the Middle East.

About JNTO

Established in 1964, JNTO provides information for international travellers about Japan and promotes travel to the country. Headquartered in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, JNTO shares information about comprehensive tourism information about the country and the unique experiences Japan has to offer and publishes tourism statistics and market reports as well as operating Tourist Information Centres.

With offices around the world, JNTO’s overseas offices provide up-to-date information on travel to and within Japan and carries out tourism-related research and assist the local travel industry in developing tours to Japan.

From the Middle East to Japan

The Middle East is one of the priority markets for JNTO and Japan intends to attract more visitors from across the region.

JNTO Dubai is operating various promotions across the region such as website, newsletter and SNS in Arabic, collaboration with influencers, consultation for travel agencies and so on to promote for travellers from the Middle East to Visit Japan.

Tourism Japan by numbers:

  • Between 2014 and 2019, the number of visitors to Japan from the GCC doubled, reaching about 30,000 in 2019.
  • Japan welcomed a record around 32 million visitors from around the world In 2019,
  • The number of tourists from the Middle East from January to September 2023 increased to 84,100, marking a 24% increase compared to the same period in 2019.

GCC Fuels Strong Recovery of Inbound Tourism to Japan

JNTO has witnessed a substantial surge in inbound tourism from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, signalling Japan’s boasting appeal as a favoured travel destination. Daisuke Kobayashi, Executive Director of JNTO Dubai office, attributes this growth to visa waivers, streamlined online applications, and the easing of COVID-related border controls, and the collaborative efforts with airlines and travel agencies for enhancing Japan’s allure as a leisure destination. Kobayashi warmly invites GCC travellers to experience Japan’s rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and hospitable environment, expressing enthusiasm for visitors to discover the wonders of the country.
