As Southeast Asia accelerates investment in grid resilience, renewable integration and electrification, Thailand is becoming an increasingly important manufacturing base for advanced energy technologies. For Hitachi Energy (Thailand) Ltd., that role is expanding through new investments aimed at strengthening local capacity while supporting the region’s long-term energy transition.

With more than 45 years of operations in Thailand, Hitachi Energy has developed its Bangpoo factory in Samut Prakan province into a strategic production center for capacitors and power transformers, supported by its own oil laboratory and nationwide service capabilities through its branch in Rayong province. The company employs more than 480 people in Thailand, serving the utility, industrial and transportation sectors.
A major step in that expansion is Hitachi Energy’s 455 million baht ($14 million) investment in Samut Prakan, part of its $9 billion global investment program to expand manufacturing, research and development and engineering capacity worldwide. The project will increase transformer production capacity by 60%, upgrade manufacturing standards and expand the transformer testing laboratory to meet rising demand for large-scale grid equipment.
Worawut Waruttamapornsu, country managing director of Hitachi Energy (Thailand) Ltd., said Thailand’s established expertise and strategic position in regional supply chains made it a natural choice for further expansion.
“As demand for electricity continues to grow in Thailand and around the world, Hitachi Energy is supporting the industry through significant investments to increase the supply of critical grid equipment, such as power transformers,” Worawut said. “These investments underscore our commitment to strengthening operations in Thailand as a strategic hub for advancing the energy transition across the region.”

The expansion also supports Thailand’s carbon neutrality target by 2050, particularly as demand grows for technologies that integrate renewable energy, stabilize power systems and support transport electrification. Under the One Hitachi Ecosystem, Hitachi Energy combines power technologies with artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and automation to strengthen digital grid capability.
“Being part of the One Hitachi Group empowers us to go beyond being a technology provider — we are an ecosystem integrator enabling clean energy innovation and sustainable societal development,” Worawut said.

Digitalization is also becoming central to after-sales services, with systems that allow real-time transformer monitoring and predictive maintenance.
“Today, energy is no longer just about power lines and substations — it is about data management, forecasting and analytics for advanced energy planning,” he said.
As Thailand advances its role in Asia’s regional grid, Hitachi Energy sees its local operations as a long-term platform supporting the region’s next phase of sustainable energy development.
