A Life Long Partnership with Japan and the Japanese
“Four decades ago, in May 1986, President Cory Aquino sent me to Tokyo, Japan to represent her in the planning conference of the 13th Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) sponsored by Japan and to be hosted later that year by the Philippines.
That visit to Japan was not only a trip but it was the start of my life journey promoting Philippines Japan relations which I continue to do. Japan even became the first home for me and my wife, Minette, as a married couple.
As the Philippines and Japan celebrate now in 2026 the 70th Year of Diplomatic Ties and Friendship since 1956, my family and I also celebrate our 40th Year of our own relations with Japan and the friendships and partnerships with the Japanese people.
