Shimadzu: Overseeing the intersection of technology, innovation and insight

In Duisburg, two complementary Shimadzu operations serve distinct roles. Shimadzu Deutschland works directly with laboratories and industrial companies, providing analytical systems, application expertise, service and market knowledge, while Shimadzu Europa coordinates and supports the company’s wider regional activities.

At Analytica 2026 in Munich, a major international laboratory trade fair, Shimadzu introduced new solutions in chromatography, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy and materials testing. The presentations reflected customer expectations for reliability, productivity, quality and regulatory compliance.

“Customers increasingly require more than individual instruments. They are looking for connected solutions, efficient processes and application support that help them produce reliable results while making better use of limited resources,” Shimadzu Deutschland Managing Director Claudia Bohm said.

Digitalization, larger data volumes, environmental protection, the energy transition, healthcare needs and shortages of qualified personnel are changing how laboratories manage workflow, staffing and resources.

The March acquisition of a 75% stake in Augsburg-based Plasmion brought specialized ion-source technology into Shimadzu’s mass spectrometry business. The investment builds on a relationship dating to 2019, extending several years of technical collaboration.

“The Plasmion investment demonstrates how specialist technology developed within Germany’s start-up ecosystem can be combined with Shimadzu’s global technological capabilities and international reach. Our work together over several years also reflects the development of an established technology partnership,” Shimadzu Europa Managing Director Florian Geistmann said.

“Germany is more than an important sales market for Shimadzu. It is a location where customer requirements, industrial applications, scientific expertise and new technologies come together.”

Duisburg also houses Shimadzu’s Laboratory World, a facility covering more than 1,500 square meters that gives customers space to test systems, experience solutions for applications and receive technical guidance across the company’s portfolio.

“Our shared location in Duisburg creates a close connection between the requirements of German customers, developments across European markets and Shimadzu’s global technology network,” Geistmann said. “Germany is more than an important sales market for Shimadzu. It is a location where customer requirements, industrial applications, scientific expertise and new technologies come together.”

Germany’s advanced industry, research institutions and demanding laboratory users provide a rigorous environment for analytical technologies. The Duisburg operations and Plasmion investment affirm Shimadzu’s long-term commitment to customer proximity, technical collaboration and European market knowledge.
