Where German engineering and Japanese foresight converge

Few materials carry as much strategic importance for advanced technologies as tantalum and niobium. Their applications include capacitors that support artificial intelligence server infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing processes, aerospace components designed for extreme temperatures and medical implants requiring a high degree of biocompatibility. Taniobis GmbH, headquartered in Goslar, Germany, has spent more than 60 years developing the metallurgical and manufacturing expertise required to produce these materials to demanding industrial standards.

Since 2018, Taniobis has been part of the JX Advanced Metals Group, bringing together German engineering excellence and manufacturing know-how with the global reach, industrial expertise and strategic vision of its Japanese parent company.

This partnership creates a strong international platform spanning Germany, Japan, Thailand and the United States. It combines Taniobis’ deep expertise in tantalum and niobium with JX Advanced Metals’ capabilities in advanced materials, supporting customers in some of the world’s most technology-intensive industries.

Responsible sourcing and circularity are central to this approach. Taniobis recovers tantalum and niobium from production residues and scrap and returns these valuable materials to high-quality applications. By strengthening recycling alongside responsible sourcing, the company helps conserve finite resources, reduce dependence on primary raw materials and build more resilient supply chains.

“As Germany and Japan mark 165 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, Taniobis demonstrates what this partnership can achieve in industry.”

The resulting materials enable technologies across global growth industries. Tantalum powders produced in Germany are used in high-performance capacitors for electronics and AI computing infrastructure. High-purity metal chlorides under Taniobis’ Ampertec brand provide starting materials for advanced semiconductor deposition processes, while spherical niobium alloy powders from the AMtrinsic product line support additive manufacturing applications, including in the aerospace field.

“As Germany and Japan mark 165 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, Taniobis demonstrates what this partnership can achieve in industry,” said Masafumi Ishii, CEO of Taniobis Group. “By combining German engineering excellence and materials expertise with the industrial leadership and strategic vision of JX Advanced Metals, we are creating advanced material solutions for AI, semiconductors, aerospace and other technologies that will be critical to future economic growth.”
