Organisation and Management

Tallinn University has evolved through the merger of over ten previously independent academic institutions. The university was named Tallinn University on 18 March 2005 by the decision of the parliament of Estonia; the Riigikogu.

The most important activities following the establishment of the university have been the shaping of a uniform identity for Tallinn University, improving academic quality through deepening international cooperation and pooling resources for more focused activities. Today, Tallinn University has a strong position in Estonia`s higher education landscape.

Innovations in education, e-governance and entrepreneurship

As Tallinn’s leading university of humanities and social sciences, the university offers uniquely interdisciplinary study and research opportunities. Just as Estonia, a country with 1.3 million people, has been recognised for its innovations in education, e-governance and entrepreneurship, the university approaches the challenges of the modern world from an unconventional angle.

Offering 38 world-class English-based degree programmes, Tallinn University is in the top 5% of the world’s universities. With 7,000 students, the university is not too big, and not too small – just right!

A Programme Partner

Tallinn University is a partner in 14 European Union regional programme projects and coordinates one of them, titled Learning Layers. The university also participates in the EU Horizon 2020 framework programme both as a partner and as a coordinator.

Agreements are in place with 43 partner universities in 21 countries and more than 490 Erasmus+ partnership agreements have been established.

The university has a literary award for its employees, lecturers and alumni, its symphony orchestra has been chosen as the Estonian Orchestra of the Year.

The university is a member of four international networks of higher education institutions, and researchers and lecturers actively contribute to the activities of their professional networks.

As a promoter of an intelligent lifestyle, Tallinn University values the free time of its members. The university has a literary award for its employees, lecturers and alumni, its symphony orchestra has been chosen as the Estonian Orchestra of the Year and it has multiple internationally recognised choirs and art groups and several Estonian championship-level sports teams.

Bilateral Agreements

Tallinn University has signed bilateral agreements with 49 partner universities. The goals of the cooperation with partners are to support international cooperation and extend the international contact network, mobilities of staff members and students, and carry out joint projects and research.

Tallinn University offers 6 Bachelor’s programmes fully in English, with many offering a unique interdisciplinary approach.

PhD Studies

International Club

Founded in 2006 as a part of the Tallinn University Student Union, Tallinn University International Club is an Erasmus Student Network (ESN) section, internationally known as ESN TLU IC.

The club’s goal is to offer international students a fun and enjoyable school life, help newcomers and introduce students to Estonian culture. This is done by organizing great trips and fun events including Welcome Party, Estonian Evening, International Express and workshops.
