As the world converges at the Osaka Expo, Monaco unveils a pavilion that masterfully combines immersive sensory experiences with a steadfast commitment to environmental sustainability.
The pavilion offers visitors a unique journey through Monaco’s rich biodiversity, innovative urban solutions, and active ecological initiatives.
‘Take Care of Wonder’: An Immersive Journey Through Monaco’s Natural Wonders
The pavilion is designed as a multi-part adventure, beginning with an experience called “Take Care of Wonder.” Visitors are greeted by a lush, beautifully curated garden that separates different zones, each offering a distinct sensory encounter.
Imagine walking through a curtain-like barrier where, as your hands brush past, you can feel textures like grass or wind — all synchronized with visual screens that bring Monaco’s natural landscapes to life. This interaction fosters an emotional connection to the fragility and beauty of our planet.
General commissioner of the Monaco Pavilion, Her Excellency Ms. Mireille Martini spoke with Bridges.
Bridges: What role do you see the Expo playing in deepening Monaco’s engagement with Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region?
Mireille Martini: The Expo is a great opportunity to bring countries and cultures together. Such an event also helps to strengthen diplomatic ties not only with the host country, in this case Japan, but also with other participating nations.
Through our Pavilion and the theme “Take Care of Wonder,” we want to show not only the beauty of Monaco but also its strong dedication to protecting the environment, especially the oceans, and promoting sustainability, topics that are important in the whole world.
In this context, the Expo is a great platform for sharing knowledge and best practices among countries. It also allows us to create new connections and explore possible collaborations with the government, institutions, and local partners. It’s a way to build lasting relationships for the future.
How is Monaco hoping to build new connections or opportunities through its presence at Expo 2025 Osaka?
Through its presence at Expo 2025 Osaka, Monaco hopes to build connections in various fields such as tourism and business, with several events planned within our Pavilion.
Expo 2025 Osaka is a great opportunity to develop economic exchanges between our two countries, to present Monaco as a tourist destination, to showcase the Principality’s initiatives in environmental protection and sustainable development, as well as to promote Monegasque artistic creation.
Discovering Monaco’s Scientific and Cultural Heritage
At the Monaco Pavilion, guests can explore Monaco’s rich history in scientific innovation. Through interactive books and screens, visitors learn about Prince Albert II’s foundational work in oceanography and environmental research — from his own research vessels to the creation of the Oceanographic Museum.
These engaging exhibits highlight Monaco’s pioneering efforts in marine conservation and sustainable development.

Leading the Green Revolution
The pavilion also emphasizes Monaco’s leadership in green energy. From electric transportation options (bicycles, buses, boats) to solar panel integration on buildings, Monaco demonstrates its commitment to reducing emissions.
Highlighted by events such as electric car races and solar energy projects, these initiatives showcase Monaco’s role as a model city for sustainable urban living.
Underwater and Marine Conservation
One of the most striking features is the “Take Care of Our Ocean” section, where visitors feel as if they’re descending into the depths of the sea. Designed to emulate a submarine voyage, this immersive space uses lighting and sound to simulate underwater environments.
Interactive displays showcase Mediterranean species and highlight Monaco’s efforts to protect marine biodiversity, including species-specific lighting effects and informative visuals about local marine life.
Educational Engagement Through Interactive Games
Beyond the primary structures, the pavilion features engaging activities like a giant wildlife board game, where children and adults alike learn about local fauna and conservation challenges through interactive play. The game immerses players in the diverse ecosystems surrounding Monaco, from the Alps to the Mediterranean coasts, fostering awareness of regional biodiversity.
A Call to Action: Protecting the Planet’s Tiny Champions
The final exhibit explores the vital role of bees in our ecosystem. Shaped as a honeycomb, this station educates visitors on pollination’s importance for food security, the environment, and human survival.
It highlights Monaco’s innovative urban bee hotels—small habitats on building terraces—aimed at conserving these essential pollinators.
Merging Nature and Design: The Garden
The pavilion’s outdoor space is a harmonious blend of Mediterranean flora and Japanese landscape influences. Ancient trees, herbs, and cacti evoke Monaco’s natural climate, while Japanese design elements pay homage to the country’s botanical ties.
This garden not only offers tranquil beauty but also symbolizes biodiversity and ecological resilience.
Looking Ahead: Monaco’s Presence at the Expo
Set to open with the participation of Monaco’s leadership, including a visit from Prince Albert II on June 28th, the pavilion underscores Monaco’s dedication to sustainability.
As the country prepares for this international showcase, organizers plan to highlight Monaco’s innovative contributions and hopes for fostering global environmental collaboration.
