Bridges: As the Denmark – Japan economic partnership gains momentum, what steps are being taken to support this important relationship?
Bødskov: Denmark and Japan share a strong and growing economic partnership, built on mutual trust and collaboration. We are expanding bilateral trade and co-operation across multiple sectors.
We have explored possibilities for cooperation in the life science sector, the maritime sector, creative industry and Denmark’s role in driving green innovation in food production.
Considering global challenges, the cooperation between Japan and Denmark is more important than ever. Continued dialogue and collaboration will contribute not only to bilateral trade, but also to addressing global challenges such as climate change.
The EXPO 2025 Osaka in Japan provides a unique opportunity to strengthen Danish-Japanese relations between our governments and our businesses.

With Japan gearing up for the EXPO 2025 Osaka, what are your expectations for the event?
I am pleased that we are joining forces with the rest of the Nordic countries with a joint pavilion.
I am confident that the Nordic Pavilion will receive many visitors at EXPO 2025 Osaka, and I look very much forward to visiting the pavilion when celebrating Denmark Day on April 24th.
I look forward to presenting our good examples of public-private co-operation.
We have good experiences working with large private foundations in Denmark such as Novo Nordisk Foundation and A.P. Møller Foundation and our knowledge and experiences with green growth and transition are well-regarded, especially within our strongholds such as the maritime industry, life science, food and creative industry.
How would you like the world to view Denmark’s contributions to the global economy?
Denmark is a small yet influential economy that plays a significant role in the global economy in some areas. Danish companies have a strong position within the maritime industry, life science, food production and creativity industry.
Our focus is on developing and investing in key areas, to secure our essential contributions to the global economy.
Regarding Denmark’s openness for industry, business and financial collaboration, what message would you like to share?
The Danish economy is relatively small, open and highly-geared to trade with other countries. With a clear emphasis on innovation as well as the green and digital transitions, Denmark is well-positioned to support businesses leading in sectors such as life sciences, bio solutions, renewable energy and maritime transport and logistics. We encourage knowledge-sharing and cross-border partnerships to drive investment and innovation in these key industries.
