A Dream Moment at Dreamworld: Loops, Laughter and Lasting Bonds

By CLAIRE CELDRAN

Stepping into Dreamworld on the Gold Coast was like crossing into an entirely new realm—a realm built for adventure. Themed lands, high-energy music, colorful storefronts, and creative dining spots pulled us deeper into the experience, each detail carefully crafted to keep the excitement humming from morning until night.

The beauty of Dreamworld is how it balances the gentle with the extreme. Families with toddlers can explore the softer side of the park, while thrill junkies can go all-in on the rides that make your heart pound. For my teens and me, it was all about chasing that rush and Dreamworld completely outdid itself.

Of all the adrenaline-pumping options, one ride quickly claimed the title of our ultimate favorite: Steel Taipan. This incredible rollercoaster took us on a triple-launch adventure, flipping us upside down, twisting through four inversions, and even featuring a spinning gondola seat at the back for an extra thrill. The speed, the drops, the way your stomach flips in the best way possible. We couldn’t resist riding it multiple times, each time trying to out-scream each other.

And here’s the secret to how we managed to hop on so many rides, sometimes back-to-back: the Ride Express wristbands. They’re an absolute game-changer—no lines, no fuss, just action. If you’re serious about keeping that adrenaline going all day long, they’re essential.

Then came The Giant Drop, and let me tell you, this one is not for the faint-hearted. You’re lifted 119 meters into the air, giving you a moment to take in sweeping views of the Gold Coast… before plunging straight down at 135 km/h. That stomach-dropping moment when gravity takes over is something you can’t really prepare for, but it’s so worth it.

We also had an absolute blast on the Motocoaster, where you ride life-sized motorbikes, holding onto the handlebars and leaning into every twist and turn. It’s the kind of ride that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a race, with the wind in your face and the adrenaline rushing.

And then there’s The Gold Coaster, a retro-styled ride that delivers all the thrills with its big drops, loops, and high-speed turns. It has this nostalgic charm but still packs a serious punch when it comes to excitement.

A stunning midpoint between thrill and chill is the Sky Voyager. This immersive flying theatre experience whisked us over Australia’s landscapes with wind, mist, even scents, like being in a movie about the country’s beauty without ever leaving your seat.

We also made time to explore Tiger Island and the Wildlife Precinct, where kangaroos, koalas, and more provide beautiful, educational wildlife encounters.

Exploring the shops and eateries was just as fun. We picked up quirky LEGO® sets at the entrance store and snagged sweet treats from Candy Nut & Fudge.

For lunch, we stumbled upon Jane’s Rivertown Restaurant, and I’m so glad we did. Far more than just a place to grab a bite, it was an experience in itself. Nestled within the park’s newly opened Rivertown precinct, the jungle-themed restaurant had numerous displays of lifelike animatronic animals, including a watchful python, a colorful parrot, a mischievous monkey, and a lurking crocodile. Overhead, an orangutan swings near a suspended canoe, while the centerpiece, a striking 12.5-metre-long boat bar. This spacious yet welcoming space is a perfect spot to take a break from the rides and recharge. What’s more, it’s an Instagrammable goldmine, appealing to both teens and adults looking to capture a few envy-inducing snaps before tucking into their meals.

By the end of the day, we were exhausted in the best possible way, legs a little tired from all the walking, voices slightly hoarse from laughing and screaming, but hearts completely full.

Dreamworld delivered everything we hoped for and more: world-class rides, memorable moments, and a full day of joy with my teens.

If you’re ever in the Gold Coast, I can’t recommend Dreamworld enough. And if we get the chance to come back, you can bet Steel Taipan will be the first ride we run to.
