Located in Amsterdam’s UNESCO-protected canal district, Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht is a five-star boutique hotel operated by Hyatt Hotels Corporation. This luxury lifestyle hotel invites you into a world where Dutch history and modern design converge in the most playful and unique ways. Designed by the renowned Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, the hotel has transformed a former public library into an enchanting retreat that is both elegant and cozy. The 122 guest rooms and 5 suites, creating a space where every design detail tells a story.
Inspired by Dutch Design
Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht is a creative haven for design lovers seeking an unforgettable local experience in Amsterdam. Marcel Wanders has artfully reimagined the space, blending quirky, unique, and memorable design elements with luxurious comforts. From the Golden-Age-inspired wallpaper to the bright yellow tulip chairs, the hotel’s décor celebrates Dutch heritage with a modern twist. The Delft Blue references throughout the hotel evoke Amsterdam’s historic artistry, while the oversized bells and whimsical Observatorium create a fantastical atmosphere that sparks the imagination.
The wallpaper in the Observatorium, with its constellation of glittery stars, offers a window into ancient navigation systems, merging the city’s literary past with its present. This imaginative design is reflected in the hotel’s large windows, creating an endless universe of knowledge that adds depth to the guest experience. The central elevator, adorned with a secret library within the shaft, allows guests to appreciate the wallpaper up close, enhancing their stay with a touch of literary intrigue.
A Canal-Side Gem
Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht’s location is unparalleled. Situated on the iconic Prinsengracht canal, the hotel is adjacent to the trendy Nine Streets and the charming Jordaan neighborhood, offering easy access to the city’s vibrant culture, shopping, dining, and nightlife. Major city highlights such as the Anne Frank House, Museumplein, Leidseplein, and Vondelpark are all within walking distance.
The hotel’s design integrates local history and touches, reflecting the surrounding area’s Golden Age elements. The rooms feature traditional Dutch hand-painted numbers and custom furniture that hark back to the library’s legacy, while hand-painted clogs on the walls nod to classic Dutch culture. Each guest room offers unique touches, such as open-plan layouts that maximize natural light and a playful yet refined aesthetic. I was immediately drawn to The Wandaz Chair, a special yellow reading chair by Marcel Wanders, which provided a perfect spot to watch the boats and bikes along the canal. The design with back-to-back mirrors in the room was a thoughtful touch that allowed us to get ready simultaneously.
Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht stands out as one of the city’s most creative luxury lifestyle hotels, offering stories and surprises around every corner.
Exclusive Design Features
The hotel’s design elements extend into the guest rooms and suites. The open-plan layout allows for maximum light and space, while the wash basins are hand-painted in Wanders’ signature one-minute style, combining boldness with a contemporary nod to Delft Blue tradition. Even their toilets are transformed into mini-libraries adorned with Amsterdam-themed wallpaper, offering cool and interesting tidbits about the city that deepened our appreciation of our stay. A unique design element in every room is a fish embroidered with the three crosses of Amsterdam, symbolizing “connecting polarities” and representing the connection between traditional and modern design.
A Culinary Experience at Barstro Prins & Aap

The restaurant’s eclectic design features elements inspired by Dutch culture, from tables reminiscent of Dutch painter Vermeer to a Jenever table that celebrates Dutch gin. The ambiance is further enhanced by the playful interactions between Prins, the sophisticated host, and Aap, the playful sidekick.
