The Spirit of Collaboration

Tomorrow, we pay tribute to Singapore’s remarkable journey. We also acknowledge the 56th anniversary of ASEAN Declaration, signed on 8 August 1967. The ASEAN Declaration envisioned a collective aspiration for regional cooperation, economic integration, and cultural exchanges and inspire a collective vision for a prosperous future within ASEAN. These days also hold immense significance as we reflect on the shared values, economic collaborations, and aspirations that unite Singapore, the ASEAN region and Japan.

With a relentless pursuit of excellence, Singapore has consistently pushed boundaries, fostered innovation, and embraced diversity. Singapore’s National Day serves as a reminder of Singapore’s resilience in the face of current complex challenges. It commemorates the collective spirit and determination of Singaporeans in overcoming such adversities, building a cohesive society, and forging a shared future.

Now, we must recognize the incredible potential for economic growth within the ASEAN region. By fostering not only infrastructure such as roads, railroad networks, sea routes, and digital networks, but also trust between countries and heart-to-heart connections between people, ASEAN can unlock a development of opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals across the region, fostering inclusive and sustainable growth for all.

The partnership between Singapore and Japan has been also a cornerstone of mutual growth and prosperity. This partnership is built upon mutual trust, and a shared commitment to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. The strong ties between Singapore and Japan serve as a testament to the power of collaboration and the potential for creating a better future together.

On these joyous occasions, let us be inspired by the spirit of unity, resilience, and progress that Singapore’s National Day and the 56th anniversary of ASEAN Declaration represent. Trust, collaboration and co-creation are key to people-centred ASEAN. May the spirit of collaboration lead us towards a prosperous and peaceful future.
