The rise in foreign direct investment (FDI) from Japan has been extraordinary. Japan ranks second in Australia’s total FDI stock, just after the US.
Japan and Australia have worked closely together in the energy sector for years. The strong ties built on mutual trust make for an excellent partnership in decarbonization and opportunities, such as hydrogen, present a 20-30 year horizon.

In 2020 Australia overtook Qatar as the largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exporter in the world.
To fulfill our mission of supplying the domestic market in Japan with a stable supply of energy, we have had to import from energy resources from around the world. Australia has provided a substantial amount of resources over the years.
