Nippon Sanso strengthens Spain’s industrial resilience

Industrial gases are largely invisible, yet Spain’s factories, hospitals, food producers, wastewater plants and other essential infrastructure cannot function without them.

Nippon Sanso operates at that critical intersection in both Spain and Portugal, supplying over 30,000 customers while combining reliable delivery with technical maintenance and process expertise.

“Even though we’re a small part of their industrial process, we are at the backbone of the industry,” said Justin Corcho, CEO of Nippon Sanso in Spain and Portugal.

The company’s reach extends across the metals, chemicals, food services, healthcare, aquaculture and wastewater treatment sectors. Strategically distributed production sites keep supplies close to customers, improving resilience during shortages and reducing logistical exposure. They also help industrial customers cut fuel consumption, improve combustion and lower emissions through oxygen-based applications and gas recovery.

Japanese ownership strengthens and deepens that capability across the business. Nippon Sanso’s global centers of excellence in electronics, innovation, operations, hydrogen, helium and decarbonization bring advanced technology, cryogenic expertise and rigorous operating standards into the Spanish market.

“Safety is first in our company,” Corcho said, reflecting an industry built around pressurized vessels, cryogenic systems and uninterrupted service.

Growth now centers on carbon management and healthcare. The June acquisition of Carboneco has expanded carbon dioxide production and logistics capacity while reducing dependence on fertilizer-linked sources. Nippon Sanso is also advancing biomethane projects that upgrade biogas and recover biogenic carbon dioxide, creating circular supply options for food-grade and industrial customers.

Its acquisition of Esteve Teijin Healthcare nearly doubled its home respiratory care footprint, enabling service to more than 600,000 patients through medical gases and respiratory equipment.

Spain has become one of the group’s most important European platforms, combining industrial depth, resilient demand, strategic scale and room for responsible innovation.

“We are very well prepared to face the future and to expand further,” Corcho said.
