Yamaha Corporation is the world’s largest musical instrument manufacturer, founded in Hamamatsu, Japan, in 1887.
Yamaha offers a complete lineup of instruments, live sound gear, and audio production tools.

The company has a nationwide network of Yamaha Store and Music Schools across Indonesia and distributes pianos, keyboards, guitars, drums, wind instruments, and professional audio products.
With four manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, the company supports employment, skills development, and knowledge transfer. Bridges had the pleasure of speaking with Hisayoshi Matsui, the President Director of PT. Yamaha Musik Indonesia.

Bridges: Yamaha Music Indonesia has an extensive presence across the country. How would you describe the scale of your network, and how do you reach musicians, students, and music enthusiasts nationwide?
Matsui: Yamaha Music Indonesia operates one of the country’s largest music ecosystems, supported by more than 100 authorized dealers and Yamaha Music School locations nationwide. Through this network, we serve musicians, students, music educators, and music enthusiasts across Indonesia.
Beyond our authorized network, we also reach smaller, independent, family-owned music stores through our wholesale partners. This allows us to extend our presence into local communities and make Yamaha products accessible to a broader audience.
Moving forward, we aim to strengthen both channels—expanding our direct presence through authorized dealers and music schools while deepening our reach through wholesale partners and independent retailers. Our goal is to build a more connected and accessible music ecosystem across Indonesia.

What does the Yamaha brand represent to your customers and students, and what makes that relationship special?
For our customers and students, Yamaha represents more than musical instruments. It stands for trust, quality, education, and a lifelong connection with music.
First, Yamaha is a trusted name in music education. Generations of Indonesian students have grown up learning through Yamaha Music Schools, supported by a structured and proven educational approach.
Second, Yamaha is synonymous with quality and reliability. Our musical instruments and audio products are designed to support musicians at every stage of their journey, from beginners discovering their passion to experienced performers refining their craft.
“Our broader ambition is to develop a fully integrated music ecosystem in which education inspires people to play, retail provides access to the right instruments, and ongoing musical engagement builds lasting relationships with the Yamaha brand.”

Third, we are committed to nurturing musical talent. Through competitions, educational initiatives, and other music programs, we strive to create opportunities for Indonesian musicians to develop their skills, express their creativity, and reach their full potential.
Ultimately, we see Yamaha as a lifelong music partner. Whether someone begins learning as a child, pursues music professionally, or simply enjoys playing as a hobby, we want Yamaha to remain part of their musical journey for years to come.

Looking ahead to FY2026/27, what are Yamaha Music Indonesia’s key priorities for growing the business nationwide?
Our FY2026/27 strategy is focused on expanding our reach, strengthening our existing network, and creating more opportunities for people across Indonesia to engage with music.
A key priority is to expand Yamaha Music Schools and retail outlets in underserved areas, including locations where our presence is currently limited or where there is significant potential for growth. We will pursue these opportunities with both existing and new partners, while also revitalizing our current outlets to improve their performance and customer experience.

At the same time, we aim to increase student enrollment, enhance the quality of music education, and strengthen Yamaha’s brand visibility nationwide. These efforts will go hand in hand with driving musical instrument sales through closer collaboration across our music schools, retail stores, authorized dealers, and wholesale distribution network.
Our broader ambition is to develop a fully integrated music ecosystem in which education inspires people to play, retail provides access to the right instruments, and ongoing musical engagement builds lasting relationships with the Yamaha brand.
By bringing these elements together, we aim to make Yamaha more accessible to more Indonesians and establish a stronger foundation for sustainable growth across the country.
