Investing in a Future Made in Australia Special

A message from the Hon. Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia

I send my warmest regards to all readers of The Japan Times, and welcome this exciting report on my Government’s A Future Made in Australia agenda and the opportunities it presents for longstanding investors in our nation, such as Japan.

We’re making new investments in clean energy, critical minerals and local manufacturing to build Australia’s national economic resilience. Revitalising our industrial base at home also creates the opportunity to deepen and diversify our trading relationships in the region, especially with close and trusted partners such as Japan.

For decades, our nations’ friendship has prospered on the shared values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Our joint economic interests rest on the same foundation of friendship and trust. Japan and Australia’s enduring trade and investment links support not only our own people and economies, but also the preservation of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

Australia will continue to be a reliable supplier of energy to Japan — already one of our largest trading partners. As both nations move toward net zero, we can extend this partnership to new energy sources such as green hydrogen.

In the coming years, Australia’s critical minerals will be the building blocks for the technologies Japan and the world need to reach net zero — and they’ll help turn Australia into the clean energy superpower we seek to become.

Japan and Australia have complementary strengths, and I’m pleased to see Japanese businesses — including those with support from the Japanese Government — already investing in Australia’s critical minerals sector.

The friendship between our countries has never been stronger and the opportunities before us have never been greater. A Future Made in Australia is a chance to deepen and broaden our economic and trade relationship, to the mutual benefit of both our nations and all our citizens.

I hope you enjoy this special report.

The Hon. Anthony Albanese MP
Prime Minister of Australia
