Bridges spoke with Elzbieta Viroux, Founder and Managing Partner and Laura Mazur, Head of Litigation and Arbitration to find out what makes Viroux and Partners a go-to firm for facilitating business in Warsaw and beyond.

Bridges: What approach does Viroux and Partners take towards establishing client relations?

Elżbieta: Everything starts with a vision…What sets us apart from other law firms is our ability to be present at each stage of a client’s activities due to our deep understanding of their business. We are absolutely unique in our business attitude of listening to the client and their business.

We listen to clients and consistently bring them out-of-the-box solutions, whether legal or business focused. We assume risk is a fundamental part of doing business and we are not afraid of giving business legal advice, beyond merely mapping risks because there is no business without risk.

Laura: While it might be controversial, I believe that, despite the idea that law firms and lawyers should aim for the best interests of their clients, it’s not always like that in practice. Our twelve years of cooperation have shown that we always prioritize what’s good for the client, not our personal interests or even the firm’s income.

We often encourage clients towards a settlement, even if it would be more economically advantageous for us to proceed with the case. We consider what value clients can gain rather than focusing on what could potentially be the result.

Bridges: How important is team-mentality within the firm?

Elżbieta: We built everything together as a team and what sets us apart are our people. We strive to create a family atmosphere, aiming to build good relationships not only within the team but also with their families. We encourage participation in events where families can join us and we can all come together. We want people to enjoy coming to work with us and feel energized by the exciting projects we have as a firm.

Laura: Having a motivated team has an immediate effect during challenging times as we don’t operate like a typical corporation. People here understand the importance of the work they are involved in and they want to see the work carried through until the successful completion of each case. We are fortunate to have clients who understand us and who appreciate our direct and decisive communication and facilitation in decision-making.

Bridges: How is the legal services sector seen in Poland?

Elżbieta: Regarding the industry in general, we are focused on breaking the stereotype of lawyers as we establish direct line of communication with our clients, allowing them to express their needs freely.

Business is changing and large corporations are turning to boutique law firms such as ours. We offer an individual approach which enables companies to shift away from the corporate structures which can often restrict business growth.

Laura: We saw opportunities arise during the pandemic and were able to hire talented individuals as other firms began to downsize. We continue to grow sustainably, bringing on juniors only after our senior staff have matured into managerial roles, maintaining our commitment to providing top-quality service to clients.

While the initial structure of the firm consisted of senior lawyers, these seniors are now mentoring our younger team members. By introducing junior staff, our practice has become dynamic and innovative.

Bridges: How do you see Poland’s relationships with Asian economies developing?

Elżbieta: Poland is experiencing significant growth, driven by infrastructure projects and a multicultural workforce, making it an attractive market for investment.

Regarding our services for Asian investors across Europe, we offer comprehensive solutions, collaborating with advisors from important sectors. Our extensive market knowledge has been key to attracting investments and allows us to offer guidance on navigating local opportunities effectively.

Laura: Poland’s presence in the EU offers opportunities that firms in non-EU countries such as the United Kingdom (post-Brexit) may not have. Poland has seized opportunities to expand its influence in the financial sector across Europe and the rest of the world.
