The Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA), established in 1951, is on a mission to promote the growth of the Mexican automotive industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bringing together companies engaged in the manufacture, import and sale of light vehicles, government representatives, other automotive institutions, business chambers and the general public, the Association maintains a sense of responsibility towards communities and the environment through proactive member representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, AMIA’s activities and evolution have been closely linked to the industrial policy implemented by the federal government and particularly to the policy of regulation and promotion of the automotive industry as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, AMIA promotes growth and development and publicises sales, production and export statistics of affiliated companies and is engaged with public policies such as Decrees and Rules of Application and Mexican Official Standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Association also collaborates closely with authorities in the negotiations of International Trade Agreements and Treaties; participating directly on behalf of the associated companies in the so-called Cuarto de Junto coordinated by the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) and the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (CONCAMIN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bridges<\/strong>: Mexico and Japan continue to strengthen their economic ties. What projections do you have for continued partnerships in the automotive sector?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Barquera<\/strong>: Our countries have strong economic and cultural ties. Particularly in the automotive sector, Japanese auto makers have been present in Mexico for more than 70 years. Collaboration in our industry is well consolidated, not just in terms of vehicles but the whole automotive value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japanese automakers are also among the top 10 sellers in the Mexican vehicle market. The current most significant challenge for the industry right now is the historic transformation towards new vehicle technologies, also known as Electromobility. Mexico is a top 10 global producer and exporter of vehicles. Now, we have to transition to new technology vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this front, Japanese automakers are already trusting Mexico to start producing new technology vehicles here. Just this past month, a major Japanese company started production of a hybrid vehicle for the North American market. This is where the next step of Mexico-Japanese automotive ties should move, and is moving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Producing not just new technology vehicles, but also expanding the strong auto parts sector to produce components related to these new vehicles. The future is very bright for our collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What role does AMIA play in supporting the industry and what do you have planned for 2024\/2025?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

AMIA is the industry\u00b4s representatives for all cross-cutting issues that impact the automotive industry. We are the industry\u00b4s voice in front of government and authorities at all levels. But we are also the spokesperson for the industry\u00b4s main agendas. We are the face of the industry in front of stakeholders and media as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For 2024, our main priority is establishing a productive collaboration relationship with the incoming federal government, to take office October 1st, as well as with the incoming legislators in both Chambers of Congress, who take office September 1st.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, developing strong ties with state and local authorities of the 12 states where the automotive industry has production, as well as where we have distribution and foreign trade operations. This with the objective of furthering the industry and increasing our contributions to Mexico\u00b4s economic growth and social development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another priority we have this year is to successfully carry out our first public event, called Mexico Drive Forward Summit. For this first edition, the focus is: Innovation Driving the Future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is to position the industry as the main economic sector in Mexico, our country\u00b4s relevance as a major top 10 world player, the historic opportunity that Electromobility means for attracting long term investment, and the challenges to achieve this transition to new technologies. We look forward to turning Mexico Drive Forward Summit into an annual event to highlight the industry and its future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
