Mr. Lee Kuan Yew<\/strong>, Singapore\u2019s founding Prime Minister<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A $10 coin to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Singapore\u2019s founding Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew (LKY100).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coin pays tribute to his strategic vision, boldness and indomitable spirit that transformed Singapore from a regional trading port to a global manufacturing, business and financial hub, creating opportunities for all Singaporeans. The LKY100 coin is gold in colour, minted in aluminium bronze, with a diameter of 30mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coin is designed by local artist Mr Weng Ziyan and the design features a portrait of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, accompanied in the foreground by the Marina Barrage, representing Mr Lee\u2019s vision to build a freshwater reservoir in the city, strengthening Singapore\u2019s water resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The backdrop is the skyline of the Raffles Place financial district, and two heritage buildings which have witnessed significant milestones in Singapore\u2019s history \u2013 Fullerton Hotel (formerly the Fullerton Building\/General Post Office) and National Gallery Singapore (formerly the Supreme Court and City Hall).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other side of the coin, below the Singapore Coat of Arms, a dual latent image features Mr Lee\u2019s birth year \u20181923\u2019 viewed from one angle, and his 100th birth anniversary \u20182023\u2019 viewed from another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fund aims to inspire 1,000 IHL student leaders and uplift up to 1,000 ITE and polytechnic students from disadvantaged backgrounds who demonstrate resilience and potential<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Lawrence Wong launched the Lee Kuan Yew Centennial Fund, which has been established with donations from the private and people sectors to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s birth in 2023. The Fund will support education-related initiatives to develop young leaders in Singapore, including the Singapore Young Leaders Programme (SYLP) which was also launched by DPM Wong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 580 students from the Autonomous Universities (AUs), Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and the five polytechnics attended the launch ceremony at Nanyang Polytechnic on 30 May 2023. The Lee Kuan Yew Centennial Fund was established from a ground-up initiative by business leaders to invest in and support the development of Singapore youth to become visionary leaders with the imagination and determination to shape Singapore’s future as an exceptional nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Managed under MOE’s Education Fund, the Lee Kuan Yew Centennial Fund will be used to support the following four education-related initiatives to develop and recognise young leaders in Singapore, and may also be used for other education-related initiatives in future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
