Turkey is a unique NATO ally, sitting on the strategic linchpin of Europe, Asia, and Africa, having historic and economic ties both with Russia and Ukraine. Recognizing further rising its importance, Japan\u2019s Foreign Minister HAYASHI Yoshimasa visited Turkey in last March, just after three weeks from Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, and held a in depth discussion with his counterpart, Turkish Foreign Minister, Mr. Mevl\u00fct \u00c7avu\u015fo\u011flu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our bilateral cooperation has extended into various fields not only business and economic, but also cultural and academic. On trade and investment, for example, if the ongoing negotiation for Japan-Turkey Economic Partnership Agreement \uff08EPA\uff09 is concluded, it will bring a broader and more stable business environment for both countries, thereby inducing more investment from Japan to Turkey. In science, Turkey-Japan Science and Technology University (TJU) in Istanbul is a case in point. The two countries are working hard to establish and make it a hub for academic and research excellence, aiming to realize its opening in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
