Tomorrow, Turkey celebrates its Republic Day, commemorating the proclamation of The Republic of Turkey in 1923. Japan and Turkey have maintained strong relations for over a century with 2019 marking 95 years of Japan – Turkey diplomatic relations and 2020 marking the 130th anniversary of the Ertugrul Frigate disaster, where the foundations of friendship between the two countries began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

”Japanese and Turkish people are very close at heart even though our countries are geographically far apart. I feel Japan and Turkey are indeed \u2018two nations, one heart.\u2019  I\u2019m grateful to work as Japanese Ambassador in Turkey to further improve the already strong bilateral ties between our two nations. Japanese companies and investors should consider the mid to long-term resilience of Turkey’s economy and evident market growth potential it has shown over the last 15 years despite various internal and external shocks. The number of Japanese companies in Turkey has increased drastically from sixty-five in 2012 to over two hundred in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cConstruction and related industries are thriving in Turkey and we expect continued growth in the automotive, machinery and agricultural sectors as well as in the number of start-ups in the near future. 2019 is JETRO’s 55th year of operation in Turkey and we would like to encourage more SME’s from Japan to consider conducting more business in this huge potential market.\u201d said Mr. Toshihiro Nakajima Director of Research at JETRO Turkey<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japan has also played a key role in the modernization and development of Turkey\u2019s infrastructure by introducing new technologies and engineering know-how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, the two countries have comprehensively been negotiating an Economic Partnership Agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japan realizes Turkey as a vital ally and invaluable partner when it comes to entering the hugely unrealized African market. This was illustrated in the 2019 Tokyo International Conference on African Development, where Turkey was the only \u2018third country\u2019 invited to the three-day event held in August this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe future between our two nations is very bright. Turkey’s central location will act as the perfect hub for entrance into the vast African markets which offer opportunities for business collaborations between our Japanese partnerships.” said Prof.Cafer Tayyar Sad\u0131klar, founder and chairman of Turkish- Japanese Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tourism from Japan to Turkey has also increased in recent years. 110,000 tourists from Japan are expected to visit Turkey this year. \u201cThis figure is very promising as it is a clear indication that tourism from Japan has bounced back from its peak in 2014. With Turkish airlines soon to be operating new direct flights to Hanada airport, we expect tourism from Japan to reach an all-time high,\u201d said Minister Mehmet Ersoy, Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
