Czechia and Japan have never been closer. We shared this view with Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, with whom I met on the sidelines of this year’s UN General Assembly in New York. I am glad that even in today’s difficult times we are on the same side, the side of democracy and respect for human rights.
There is no doubt that our countries influence and inspire each other. Czech judoka Lukáš Krpálek became the Olympic champion at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The works of the Czech painter Alfons Mucha in the art nouveau style influence the creators of manga comics to this day. Japanese culture itself became a part of Czech culture in many ways, and we cannot imagine modern life without Japanese technologies.
It has been 20 years since the last visit of Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to the Czech Republic, and next year we will celebrate 20 years of the strategic partnership between our countries. I am glad that also Prime Minister Fumio Kishida knows the Czech Republic personally and we hope to have a chance to welcome him to Czechia again.
Economic cooperation has been one of the major pillars of our relations and we see a great potential for their further strengthening. Recent visit of the delegation of Nippon Keidanren confirmed that we have many interests in common and that there remains a lot of potential for us to take advantage of.
Czechia will take part in the World EXPO 2025 in Osaka. We are ready to introduce our country’s culture, industry, science and tech innovations. We will be happy to meet you in our EXPO pavilion or during your visit to Czechia.
